Moira and her son
Moira’s son was living in supported independent living (SIL) in a house with no house leader. This meant the place was disorganised and often filthy, and there was no accountability for the quality of care given. Moira felt that the provider was more focused on NDIS funding than they were on her son.
When Moira met Ruthy, who told her about FGCS’s person-centred approach, she felt reassured that her son’s day-to-day carers would also reflect Ruthy’s leadership and values.
She moved her son and his flatmate to a new house with FGCS’s help, where the house was clean with a big enough lounge room for easy movement and kept free of tripping hazards. But that’s not the most important thing. Moira’s son now has outings four days a week, including one community day per week. He’s looking healthier, and Moira has peace of mind knowing his needs are coming first.
